vSphere 5 Features and Enhancements

LISAsoft is a enterprise partner of VMware. We have upgraded various customers to VMware environments from versions 4 through to version 5. Our VMware engineers are available to your business to assist in upgrades and migrations to vSphere 5.
vSphere 5 Features:
Storage Distributed Resource Scheduler (SDRS): Previous version of vSphere included DRS – automated migrations of VMs to hosts that have best available CPU. SDRS provides a similar migration based on storage performance. That is, VMs are migrated to datastores that have the best IO performance characteristics. SDRS builds upon the "Storage IO Control" feature of version 4.1.
High Availability Enhancements:
The HA code in vSphere 5 has been completely redeveloped, allowing VMware to remove many legacy limitations. Benefits include: Larger cluster sizes, no limit on "master", "slaves" numbers, no reliance on DNS, datastore heartbeats, faster detection of HA situations.
Bigger and better:
As expected, all configuration maximums are increased. VMs can now have 32 vCPUs and 1TB of RAM. The VMFS-5 file system can contain a single LUN of 64TB. Hosts can have 2TB of RAM.
Auto ESXi deployment:
vSphere 5 also contains an auto-deployment feature for new ESXi hosts. This allows for new ESXi hosts to be commissioned into the environment very quickly.
vSphere 5 with storage IO control, SDRS and Storage profiles removes the headaches associated with shared storage and virtual machines. LISAsoft will assist you in realising the benefits of vSphere 5.
