TileSync

The TileSync utility is a desktop application enabling local councils to retrieve Shared Land Information Platform (SLIP) datasets onto their local file system.  This facility is used to support the use of SLIP datasets by councils working with MapInfo; and using ExaMin the deployment of SLIP datasets to mobile devices.

The Shared Land Information Platform is a showcase of OGC standards allowing collaboration between all levels of government.  SLIP provides a central list of OGC Web Services which list datasets from across Australia; and route each request through to the appropriate department.

SLIP Enabler Portal

TileSync was constructed as a desktop application in a very short time frame using the User-friendly Desktop Internet GIS (uDig) framework providing out of the box support for the OGC services provided by SLIP.

The TileSync application is composed of a series of “plug-ins” providing the definition of an area of interest; and an export wizard for collecting tiles. These facilities were extended to convert the tiles to MapInfo TAB format as the first step of the ExaMin publication to mobile devices.

The resulting application was bundled with custom product branding resulting in a complete standalone desktop application.

Cascading Web Feature Server

Internally the SLIP Spatial Data Services make use of both MapServer for WMS support and GeoServer for WFS support and PostGIS to cache feature data closer to user communities.

The "cascading" WFS support used by SLIP was pioneered by LISASoft staff for the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure Interoperability Pilot.
