State of Catchment Reports

LISAsoft worked with the Department of Environment and Climate Change, NSW to build a data model for State of Catchment reporting requirements. This was built into a pilot database, web service (using GeoServer), web application and data entry system. The system integrates with other state and national SDI requirements through web references and open standard interfaces.

The State of Catchments project is an excellent example of an integrated approach allowing DECC NSW to leverage their existing infrastructure and software licenses. ESRI GIS Server middle-ware (in the form of ArcSDE) is used to add spatial support to Microsoft SQL Server containing a database of indicators applicable to each region.  GeoServer is deployed along with a custom GeoJSON format allowing indicators to be represented over time. An OpenLayers map widget takes care of client side visualisation; in this case draped over Google maps.
