SQLServer

Microsoft’s SQLServer has always represented excellent value in the database market. There are two options for using SQLServer as a spatial databse: ESRI GIS Server; or SQL Server Spatial Tools.

Open Geospatial Consortium

SQLServer gained the ability to natively support spatial data types as part of SQL Server 2008. The implementation provides for both geodetic and planar data and works with the OGC standards for Well Known Binary (WKB) and Geographic Markup Language (GML). The product data type and functions conforms to SFSQL 1.1.0 although it has not passed compliance tests at this time.
