CarbonArc

CarbonArc® PRO eliminates barriers to geospatial interoperability by providing discovery, consumption and interaction capabilities for the OGC® Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) 1.0 baseline - directly from the ESRI ArcGIS 9.2 desktop.

By plugging into ArcGIS, CarbonArc PRO lets you use any OGC Web service and data as an integral part of the GIS - including WMS, WFS, WFS-T, WCS, Filter Encoding, Gazetteer, GML, GMLsf and CS-W.

CarbonArc is designed for usability. Its multi-threaded operation and caching mechanism maximize the usability of the OGC Web services while minimizing idle time experienced by the user. Interacting with Web services does not stall the application, even with the slowest responding services. The caching mechanism for images and features will ensure the display of any relevant existing data in the viewed extent while new data is being read. Moreover, the data may be seamlessly saved and loaded with the ArcMap session (MXD file). This allows the quick restoration of data from a local file without requiring an internet connection even when the data originated from online services.

The GML features managed by CarbonArc provide a new way to view the data using ArcMap’s Identify tool. A tree-view type breakdown of the feature’s contents illustrates the item’s complex structure and contained information. This view will show the nested properties, their values and any attributes associated with them. Raster maps from WMS will display the information available when using the Identify tool as a web page.

CarbonArc provides a new set of feature renderers that use the complex data while enabling the utilization of the native symbology supported by ArcGIS. The extended renderers provide new functionality such as handling mixed geometries or drawing a path between points. When a GML based layer is read CarbonArc will automatically detect the type of symbology that is adequate for the GML geometries and set a default renderer and symbols.

CarbonArc PRO was developed with CarbonTools PRO, an extension to the Microsoft .NET Framework for advanced location content handling, mapping and sharing.
